PARENTING SOLUTIONS DEVON
It is an uncertain time for everyone and I recently became aware of a difficulty one of my clients was experiencing and thought I would tell you guys about it.
My client has a cash only bank account, which before Coronavirus cause no issues for her whatsoever. She would receive payment slips from her utility’s companies, the gas board, telephone company and water board and take these along to her local PayPoint shop and all would be well. Now her local PayPoint shop is refusing cash.
So, what can you do if you find yourself in this situation? Your bank account may not allow direct debits. Trying to talk to anyone at the bank is a complete nightmare as you are on hold for a long time.
Here are some ideas to help you:
1. Check if you can access your bank account online or register to do this.
2. Check if you have set up a telephone automated banking service, if not register to do this now.
3. Talk to the utility company and see if you can come to an arrangement for them to wait until PayPoint shops will take cash.
4. Phone your bank, hang on in there till you can talk to a human and ask if they can make a payment to the utility company on your behalf or if you can change your account to a Debit Card account because of these issues.
A lot of the banks now offer a debit card account to replace the old cash only bank accounts so it maybe worth checking if you can move on to this scheme. They usually come with a debit card, the ability to do internet or phone banking, you can set up direct debits, but you won’t be given an overdraft.
If you continue to have difficulties get in touch with Parenting Solutions Devon and we have template letters, which you can email or post to your utility company and to your bank.
Take care and keep positive.
